During a recent planning session with a Client whose spent ages on fantastic, interesting and visually appealing Facebook and Twitter posts but didn’t have a blog on their website, I was asked why blog anyway, isn’t it more work? The short answer is no! Especially for this Client who was already doing the work coming up with the content which was wonderful stuff! However, limiting it to Facebook and Twitter meant opportunities were being missed to direct followers back to their website!
If you are smart about it you can use your blog to direct all your Facebook and Twitter followers back to your own site and then your content is there for your followers to read and spend time on YOUR site and not on Social Media.
We went through lots of reasons and the following seven are probably the best ones and I’d like to share them with you.
- To communicate interesting content which is your EXPERTISE
Blogging is about you and what you do well. Most Small Business owners find it easy to talk about their work and how they do it, why they do it and why they love it. Once I get them talking their enthusiasm for what they do usually takes over and then it’s hard to stop them.
- To let customers and potential customers know about your PASSION
Yes, passion! Small Business is often about a passion and if you can capture this in a series of blog posts then you can communicate your passion for what you do.
- To use it as a CALL TO ACTION
Blogging can be used to ask customers to do something and it is a great way to invite a conversation with a potential customer or existing customers.
- To use it to LEAD your Social Media and start conversations
I use a blog planner and have found that by planning blogs Small Businesses can use their blogs to drive their Social Media. Once they have posted the blog on their website it can be shared on all other social platforms.
- To drive traffic back to your WEBSITE
Once your blog is posted on your website you can refer to it in your other Social Media platforms and use links to drive traffic back to your website. This is where you want your customers to spend time and you can direct them to the part of your website you want to promote.
- To help with your SEO
Blogs can really help with SEO by using keywords for your business that search engines will pick up on. If you post new content regularly using your blog, with your keywords then this will boost your SEO.
- It’s FREE
Yes, it’s free!
So Blogging is a great communication tool and if you aren’t already then my advice is that it can really help.
If you are not sure where to start or how to get a regular blog post going then get in touch, I’m more than happy to chat to you about how I can help.
