Happy New Year to you and I hope you had a wonderful time enjoying the festivities. This year it seemed longer than usual…and I must admit that I took a lovely break from Social Media which was long overdue.
Now I’m back and I’ve been thinking about 2017 and planning so I thought I’d give you some tips on planning your own Social Media for the year. If you have taken a break from posting then get yourself right back on it and post something, consistency is key. If you haven’t planned anything for the New Year yet, don’t panic, read on and I’ll give you some direction and a framework to get yourself rocking 2017 from the start.
One of the first things I recommend to you for the New Year, is to look at your blog plan… this is where the Strategy for your year of Social Media starts and it is the best way I have found to keep track of your messages and content on your Social Media.
If you don’t yet have a blog plan then start by brain dumping all your ideas and thoughts about what you could write about and you will start to feel so much better and begin to get control of what you are doing and where you are going with it. Put some time aside to brainstorm your thoughts and then work through the year (or the next 6 or 3 months even) with ideas for blogs and then get them all down on paper. If your business revolves around promotions on certain dates then put these in first, ie. Valentines, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day etc etc or maybe you have seasons or events to focus on. Think about your staff, your latest offers, your new stuff and anything you want to tell your followers about. Whatever it is use each blog as an anchor to hold your content and to drive traffic from your Social Media onto your website. It doesn’t need to be cast in stone and it possibly will change as things happen as new things always crop up and existing products and services evolve. You can download the blank blog plan here and if you want some help with filling it in then let me know. It is really worth spending the time to plan as it will save you time later!
I put my blog plan up on the wall in my office and although I don’t always stick rigidly to it, it does provide me with a real focus for my Social Media and I feel so much more in control of what I am doing, knowing it is there. To be honest it does end up with scribbles and crossings out on it but that’s fine in my book, it’s work in progress!
Let me know if you have a plan and how you use it, I know that everyone is an individual and likes to do it in their own way, I think variations on a theme show your individuality and it’s always good to put your own stamp on your brand.
If you haven’t yet got a plan then do have a go, email me if you have questions for me, I’m always happy to help firstname.lastname@example.org
With all good wishes for the brand spanking New Year!
