Let’s share the love for Instagram today on the Platform Social Blog..
Instagram isn’t a platform for every Small Business but if your business is visual and you are regularly posting on other Social Media it can be a great new dimension for your brand and your business. When I ran my own Beauty Salon business there were fabulous opportunities to use great photography from customers, suppliers, industry leaders and influencers for Instagram and a search on #salon has over 5 million posts!
It’s free (at the moment) and is a great way to let everyone know what you are up to and it can be a superb platform to show your brand’s personality, passion and quirkiness. With a little practice and possibly some trial and error it can give a valuable insight into what your business does well and can highlight your uniqueness!
Although my business is not very visual itself, I’ve used pictures from my blogs and fun pictures I’ve taken myself on Instagram, with a twist in the post to connect to my Social Media advice and coaching. So far, it’s my own pictures that have the most likes and comments…
The main aim, as with most other Social Media, is to FIND, COMMENT and then ENGAGE…with your target audience. If you see something interesting, comment on it ask to take the conversation offline and away you go.
One of the keys is to be authentic, take pictures of what you are doing, where you are doing it, show what it looks like and show some quirky moments and unusual angles. Remember the people factor helps too so use your employees, customers, suppliers (with their permission, of course) and do post with hashtags. Get it up and running and be consistent so your audience will know when to expect updates from you.
If you can talk about your Instagram in your blogs and share Instagram pics on your blog it will give it a huge boost and if you share your Instagram to your other social networks you are widening the net and adding to Instagram’s growth that way too.
The more specific you can get with your hashtag, the more targeted your audience will be.
This is a great way to growth on Instagram and getting your content found. Search for hashtags that are trending or being used frequently using your keywords and put hashtags in a comment below the photo. Use one or two hashtags here and publish then click to comment on your own post and type the hashtag again.
Reply to comments and tag in username of the person who commented, always do this so the person can see you have replied.
Follow your followers back
This makes perfect sense but not everyone does it.
Yesk, do use video clips on Instagram! Take notice of the ones that get the most views and add them to your Instagram now and then.
Use the app Regram
This is a fab app and lets you add content to your own Instagram and build connections with other users. It’s a way to share other peoples posts too. Have a play with it and see how well it works for you.
Boost followers by engaging
Engagement helps growth and you can do this by liking your target audience’s posts, leaving useful comments and questions on them and the people they follow and tag, tag, tag clients, suppliers, friends, family and other people in your posts.
Shout about your Instagram – use email, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and of course, your blogs.
I use Hootsuite to schedule and although Hootsuite doesn’t actually post it for you it sets up the post and then tells you when your post is ready. When you get the notification you need to go into the app on your phone to post it I still use it as it is where I do all my scheduling. There are other apps such as Latergram.
These are just a few ideas for you, remember be authentic, let your personality and brand shine through and above all, have fun and enjoy it.
